AI-Based Enhancement of Teaching and Learning Materials

1.     Overview

AI-Based Enhancement of Teaching and Learning Materials is a structured, self-paced faculty development course designed to support educators in transforming their existing teaching resources into engaging, structured and interactive learning experiences using Artificial Intelligence tools. The course focuses on enhancement rather than replacement, enabling faculty to improve slides, notes and PDFs without redesigning their courses from scratch. The program consists of two completed instructional modules, each followed by a knowledge check assessment. Upon successful completion of both modules and their quizzes, participants receive a course completion certificate.

2.     Course Vision

To empower faculty members at Jazan University to confidently integrate AI tools into their teaching practice in a responsible, practical and academically aligned manner, enhancing student engagement and learning quality without increasing instructional workload. This eCourse is designed to raise awareness among Jazan University faculty regarding the transformation of digital content into interactive learning experiences during (Open Education Resources) OEWEEK.

3.     Course Objectives

·      Introduce a clear AI enhancement workflow for teaching materials.

·      Demonstrate practical methods for upgrading existing slides and notes.

·      Enable the creation of interactive formative assessments using AI tools.

·      Support the development of structured micro learning resources.

·      Promote clarity, accessibility and inclusive digital teaching practices.

4.     Course Learning Outcomes

·      Enhance existing teaching materials using AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT.

·      Generate application-based questions and formative assessments from lecture content.

·      Transform static slides into interactive learning resources.

·      Convert lectures into micro learning packs including summaries, short videos and quizzes.

·      Apply a structured workflow to review, refine and publish AI-enhanced materials responsibly.

5.     Module 1: Foundations of AI-Enhanced Teaching

Module 1 establishes the conceptual and practical foundation for AI integration in teaching. Participants explore common issues in existing teaching materials, including content overload, limited interaction and lack of structured revision support. The module introduces a simple four-step AI workflow: Select content → Ask AI → Review and refine → Publish responsibly. The module emphasizes responsible use of AI, alignment with learning outcomes and academic verification before publishing enhanced materials.

Module 1 Knowledge Check:

·      5 multiple choice questions

·      Passing score: 80 percent

·      Multiple attempts allowed

6.     Module 2: Practical AI Tools for Content Transformation

Module 2 focuses on hands-on implementation. Faculty learn how to use AI tools to upgrade lecture slides, generate application-based questions, improve slide design, enhance clarity, create interactive quizzes and convert long lectures into structured micro learning units. Tools covered include Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, PowerPoint Designer, Microsoft Forms and other accessible AI-supported platforms. Emphasis is placed on practical enhancement within 15 to 30 minutes per lecture.

Module 2 Knowledge Check:

·      5 multiple choice questions

·      Passing score: 80 percent

·      Multiple attempts allowed

7.     Assessment and Certification

Each module concludes with a structured knowledge check designed to assess practical understanding of AI-enhancement strategies. Participants must achieve a minimum score of 80 percent in each module quiz. Multiple attempts are permitted per quiz. Upon successful completion of both modules and passing all knowledge checks, participants receive an official course completion certificate.

8.     Expected Institutional Impact

This course supports improved student engagement, enhanced clarity of learning materials, continuous formative assessment practices and structured digital learning design. It aligns with institutional priorities in digital transformation, quality enhancement and faculty development.
